OPEN For Humans
What inspired you to start your business?
Truthfully, frustration and curiosity. Having put in over 15 years collectively at other agencies and firms and still feeling a creative void. The desire to go after projects that incorporated both our skill sets in architecture and visual arts, and own it.
What sets your business apart from others? In other words, what challenges/gaps are you addressing?
We're seeking other creative start-ups and entrepreneurs to collaborate with so budgets are tight and we have to get creative with materials and design concepts. Many times it's their first opening of a retail space or restaurant, or installation for an event. So their nervous energy is high and the process is all new. Like them, we're nimble and scrappy and strive to grow together as they do and work within their budget. We take on each project at a time. We design worldwide but also understand the beast of designing in LA.
Are you launching anything new or exciting?
We're currently working on an art installation for a new restaurant concept in Miami, they haven't officially opened yet so we can't reveal much, but in true Miami fashion, dinner will start at 11pm. We're also working on submissions for pavilion design competitions. These are highly competitive, but we love smaller scale pop-up architecture like this. We would love to design one inside another brick and mortar, or placed out in nature.
What's the best piece of business advice you've ever been given?
ALWAYS get it in writing.
