What inspired you to start your business?
When I was 9 years old, I started stealing my mom's 35mm point and shoot camera to take photos of my friends at recess. Once she realized that my obsession was becoming more of a passion, she passed down my father's old Minolta 35mm and all of his notes from classes, as well as a Kodak manual. I taught myself everything I could at 12 years old. After leaving the rural area of Upstate NY to pursue a photography degree in NYC, I realized that my love of photography was a way for me to memorialize all of my favorite moments. Doing anything related to photography now is a dream, and I'm happy to be living it.
What sets your business apart from others? In other words, what challenges/gaps are you addressing?
I try to really immerse myself in whatever experience I'm photographing, whether it be a wedding, event, or editorial piece. I want to really show what people are feeling. I try to do the same thing with my portrait work – I want my subjects to have an intimate connection with my camera. I want people viewing my photographs to have a warm feeling, like they're revisiting a memory.
Are you launching anything new or exciting?
I'm working on photographing a lot of people from my hometown who were close to my father, titling the series "Getting to Know my Father." I want to photograph them in their homes or spaces they're comfortable in as they tell me stories about my dad who passed away when I was very young. I'll be posting it on my website (www.bridgetbadore.com) and blog (blog.bridgetbadore.com) as I work on it.
What's the best piece of business advice you've ever been given?
Just start something. Don't wait until you're "ready," because you never will be. Also don't be afraid to ask questions!
