BOOBS. That's how we first stumbled upon Kate Worum. Fun illustrations of boobies of varying sizes and shapes made into a quirky wallpaper was so cheeky, we had to track down the artist who made us stop and take notice. And while the subject of the illustrations made us pause, it was the obvious talent shining through that made us contact Kate. Based out of Minneapolis -- a city full of fun creatives who have certainly commanded the attention of the rest of the U.S. as of late -- Kate freelances as an artist/illustrator while balancing a role at Target as a Apparel + Accessories Trend Forecaster.

We spoke to Kate Worum about being a Daring Creative.

When did you decide to pursue your current career path?

I've wanted to make things my entire life. But it wasn't until I was attending the Minneapolis College of Art + Design that I decided to start my freelance business. I was surrounded by mentors and peers nurturing their own creative ventures and I thought, HEY! If they can do it, I can do it too! I never envisioned myself having a 9-5 so I figured I better create my own weather.

How does the city you live in influence your creativity?
There is a close knit and supportive creative community here in Minneapolis. I am constantly being inspired and supported by my peers. Nothing motivates me more to keep pursuing a creative career than seeing the people around me succeed. I am fueled by passionate and driven people. They help me keep the fire lit under my A$$.

In your own words, what does it mean to be a "creative"?

It seems as though now a days everyone is a "creative". There are so may different facets of creativity. In my opinion, to be a creative is to view and approach life a bit more whimsically and for me personally needing to make - ALL the time!

What is the biggest misconception about what you do?

That it is always FUN! Most of the time it is, but there are always those tricky projects and clients. With any job, it is called work for a reason!

What do you do to get through your day?

Drink Coffee + Laugh until I cry at least once… It may be just one baby tear or one of those awkward laughs that turns into a legitimate cry scaring the people around you.

What has been the pit and peak of your week so far? (a low and a high moment)

Well, it is only Monday… Pit: I passed gas in front of my boyfriend last night while we were sleeping in bed. High moment: My team is taking me to happy hour in 10 minutes to celebrate a promotion!

Who is someone famous that you think is killing it at the moment? In other words, is there someone whose career you admire.

Leandra Medine [Man Repeller]. I love how she is un-apologetically [sic] herself at all moments. I always look forward to seeing what she will do next.

Finish this sentence...

Happiness is: An uninterrupted nap.

My biggest frustration is: People who are habitually late... Like 30-60 minutes late. There really is no excuse for that. Time is of the essence.

I couldn’t live without my: Loved ones.
