Out & About // Paige Smith at Time To Shine Gallery
This past Saturday we caught up with Paige Smith, the subject of our Current Project feature in the upcoming Winter issue, when Time To Shine Gallery featured some of her paper and resin geodes in the context of a gallery setting as opposed to the artist's usual location of choice: the urban landscape. The exhibition, "Obsessed With Solitude" was shown in conjunction with works by artist collective CYRCLE and featured both newer, monochromatic resin pieces as well as a framed section of a previous project Smith had done for The Standard Hollywood's "The Box," a revolving installation space. Whereas coming into contact with one of Paige's sparkling treasures in old drain pipes, corners of dilapidated buildings, or obsolete telephone booths offers a sense of magic and whimsy in their out-of-context setting, placing them within a gallery treats them as fine art--beyond just street art--and allows viewers to focus on their minute craftsmanship and near-obsession to the details of geometry. We can't wait to see what's next for Ms. Smith!
