In one night, I became Sophia Lauren. I became Audrey Hepburn. I became Grace Kelly. No, there were no hallucinogens involved, just a room full of some of the most stunning sunglasses designed by one of the most iconic brands in the business. For the month of October, Gogosha Optique has transformed its 3rd Street location in Los Angeles into a pop-up featuring the complete collection from Oliver Goldsmith — the label responsible for signature frames on the likes of Lady Gaga, Michael Cain, John Lennon, and even the classic sunnies of aforementioned Hepburn’s Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s — in the style of London in the swingin’ sixties. For the opening on October 8th, owner Julia Gogosha and her savvy staff treated attendees to macaroons, shandies (beer + lemonade), and a visit from the brand’s current managing director (and great granddaughter of founder P. Oliver Goldsmith) Claire Goldsmith. Claire re-launched the line in 2006, smartly opting to remake their original styles, thereby creating their current nostalgic (yet still totally modern) aesthetic. This is further punctuated in the pop-up by featuring the British brand’s bespoke, or customizable, styles based on archival frames. Gogosha is only of only a handful of stores worldwide that offer the service. For glasses-loving guys and gals, the pop-up offers a double whammy: tremendous eye candy from a brand with meticulous attention to detail (still hand-crafted in the UK!) and a knowledgeable staff led by Gogosha that gently helps you see what works and what doesn’t.
